What does XviD mean and comparing the quality difference between video encoded in XviD and X264?
Both XviD and x264 are encoders. Xvid is an encoder following MPEG-4 Part 2
video coding standard, while x264 encodes video streams into the H.264 format
and it follows MPEG-4 Part 10 coding standard.
XviD consists of two parts. One is DivX’s encoder, and another is DivX’s decoder
under multiple platforms. Here, we only discuss the video encoding.
Let us give two examples:
Batman v Superman Dawn Of Justice Extended 2016 1080p BDRip x264 AC3 - KiNGDOM (6.61GB)
What is encoding?
Encoding is the process of converting source format data, which is usually RAW
format occupying large capacity, into small-sized Divx or H.264 format using
Xvid or X264 encoder respectively. Or, by lowering parameters of encoding in
the same format, source format is finally output to one or multiple specified
What is the difference between video encoded in XviD and X264?
As for common audience, they only need to pay attention to the following two points:
1. with the same quality, video encoded in x264 comes with smaller size than video encoded in XviD
2. with the same file size, video encoded in x264 ensures better quality than video encoded in XviD
